We hope that Spring Break was refreshing! We are starting to see the light :)
We had a busy week back, and have so much to be proud and thankful for!
Last week Meara Bowling shared about her trip to Costa Rica. Breslyn Gonzalez introduced us to Mexican traditions and artifacts, and her grandfather brought in a sweet Mexican treat for the class. April Christianson's family is from Norway, and showed us videos and images her hundreds of years old family farm in a small Norwegian town, and brought in hand-made Norwegian Lefse (potato flatbread)! Finally, Cori Carlson talked about their family's Swedish heritage, and shared artifacts from Sweden and some tasty Swedish cookies. We are learning so much!
On Wednesday Children's Lunchbox collaborated with BOOP to help our students gain perspective on hunger in our community. Each student, with the help of their 5/6 Book Buddy, got to pack 2 lunches for a child in Anchorage who may not have 3 meals a day. They even wrote notes for the kids to find and packed them with the lunch! We were impressed by the conversations they had and their compassion for other kids.
We had two Family Shares last week! Taegan shared about her family and family vacations. Fun Fact: Taegan's family raises bees!
Caitlin shared about her dog Gracie.
Fun Fact: Gracie gets jealous when Caitlin pets other dogs!
We had such a fabulous week before spring break- we can't believe that it is already here! There are many pictures of the highlights below! Be sure to read the Newsletter for details about the classroom :)
A quick note about pictures: unless you pre-ordered the re-take photos you need to pay for them to keep them, or return the photos to the school. This is not our system, but Lifetouch's system!
We could not believe the talent in our room that took Bowman by stage on Thursday! We loved the beautiful voices of theses three ladies: Alissa sang "Sweet Child of Mine", complete with Air Guitar, Kaylee sang "Lost Boy", and Caitlin sang "How Far I'll Go" from Moana. Quinn brought down the house in the talent show finale with his synchronized swimming comedic act. Thank you for bringing your talent to our family group!
We can't believe how our Country Spotlights took off this week! A HUGE thank you to the Anderson family for coordinating three exchange students from Italy, Germany and Brazil to share about their country personally in our class! Thank you also for arranging a visit from some other foreign friends in the form of Zeus and Granite, the boa constrictors, and their handler Carl.
Hooray for Lexia AND Xtra Math this week! Look at these learners. I wonder how many certificates there will be after spring break!?
Thanks for the great family share Quinn! It sounded like you had a very action-packed summer in Texas with lots of fun and novel experiences.
Happy birthday Charlotte!
This week just flew few by with all the celebrating we got to do! We celebrated Camden's birthday with brownie bites and oranges. We celebrated Talon for his fantastic family share presentation. We celebrated Dr. Seuss' birthday through science, books, and with Melissa's kindergarteners. Finally we celebrated all of our Lexia lovers and their level-ups!
Thanks for the HUGE interest in our country spotlight project! We cannot wait for our friend and family teachers to come in and teach about their countries. Almost EVERY spot has been filled!!!!
May the Spring Break countdown begin….
Have a fantastic weekend!
Thanks Talon for sharing your family trips to Maine!
